CPSC Has Full Slate of Commissioners -- And New Chairman

On July 28, the Senate confirmed Elliot Kaye to be the new Democratic CPSC Chairman and Joe Mohorovic to be a new Republican Commissioner. The pair were sworn in on July 30. The CPSC is now acting with a full slate of five members. Kaye's chairmanship marks the end of Commissioner Bob Adler's tenure as Acting Chairman. Commissioner Adler has been nominated for a second seven-year term, but the Senate has yet to confirm him. The CPSC has announced that it is holding a workshop on September 18 on the electronic filing of certificates for regulated imported consumer products. The announced workshop will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss how the Commission may improve the current process concerning Certificates of Compliance. As you may recall, the Commission issued a proposed rule to amend the existing rule on Certificates of Compliance (16 CFR Part 1110), but received near-unanimous criticism for its proposal. SGIA will be attending this workshop and will provide updates on this issue as available.
